Welcome from the Residency Director

Thank you for considering the Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. As the only academic medical center in the state, UMMC offers our residents unique opportunities to learn across clinical medicine, public policy, research and population health.

Our program has strong partnerships with organizations throughout Mississippi, including the Mississippi State Department of Health and the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Medical Center, where residents can complete rotations in addition to their clinical experiences at UMMC. Residents also have opportunities to gain experience in a large community health center, health policy fellowship and research projects.

Our department is deeply committed to the education and development of our residents and students. We are especially proud to have established the first preventive medicine residency program in Mississippi. In a state facing significant challenges related to preventable morbidity and mortality, there is tremendous opportunity for our residents to make a meaningful impact on the health of individuals and communities.

Our department is uniquely positioned within UMMC, with a presence in both the School of Medicine and the John D. Bower School of Population Health. This allows us to participate in and contribute to the Medical Center’s broad mission, from patient care and quality improvement to population-level research and efforts to improve health across Mississippi.
